----- SUMMARY.- Amaranthus hybridus (syn: quitensis), known as smooth pigweed, is currently one of the most important weeds in Uruguayan agricultural systems, generating serious losses in crop production due to its high capacity to compete for resources such as water, light and nutrients. Recently, cases of lack of control have been observed after the application of glyphosate, the main herbicide used in its management. The objective of this work was to determine the level of resistance to glyphosate in the biotypes of A. hybridus collected in Uruguay with presumed resistance to glyphosate, and to analyze the possible presence of the triple mutation TAP-IVS in the active site of the EPSPS enzyme (5enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase) as a resistance mechanism.
